The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide the National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Venezuela with musical instruments such as violins, violas, double basses, trumpets, oboes, and flutes for the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra. The JICA will also provide the FESNOJIV with audiovisual equipments for the Center for Social Action through Music, that will be used to produce educational material for the 180 núcleos of El Sistema. Through this cooperation agreement called “Cultural Donation” the Japanese Government promotes the cultural and educational development of friendly countries. Since 1987, Japan has been promoting the cultural and educational development of Venezuela. This is the second time FESNOJIV receives a donation of instruments through a cooperation agreement. The first time was in 1997. As regards Dr. José Antonio Abreu, founder of the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela, His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito presented him with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun in February 2008 for promoting musical exchange and friendship between Japan and Venezuela, as well as for his dedicated work on behalf of the children of Venezuela through El Sistema.
